Consider your options carefully. If you choose to share a room and then change your mind after you’ve been assigned a roommate, you’ll be responsible for not only paying your own single supplement but that of your roommate who will now be charged the single fee. The rooms at this hotel are large enough to share; there are two queen beds in each room, although storage for your affairs is more limited. We assign roommates randomly, and while we don’t expect complete bliss, we’ve had very good luck with sharing harmony over the years. If you register before the final date (March 15, 2018), we will do our best to find you a roommate; after that date, we cannot guarantee one. In either case, whether you’ve requested a roommate before or after the date, you may find yourself assigned a single room, in which case The French Traveler will negotiate payment of the single supplement fee with you.
Cancellations must be made in writing before April 14, 2018. Deposits are refundable, less $200 per person, until April 14, 2018. No refunds of either deposit or balance after April 15, 2018 under any circumstances. The French Traveler strongly recommends the purchase of trip cancellation insurance.
The LYON 2018 immersion workshop is open to language teachers and/or administrators, librarians, school board officials, members of language associations who speak French at an intermediate level or better; Francophone spouses and family members over 23 are also welcome if they are able to fully converse in French. We encourage French languages at all times and discourage the use of the English language, even between participants.
Massachusetts Professional Development Hours
The French Traveler has requested reauthorization to certify 85 Massachusetts professional development hours upon completion of a paper which shows mastery of any subject covered during our stage. Papers are due by September 1 following the summer stage. The French Traveler will share with the interested participant the requirements necessary to show mastery. We hold the papers for a period of five years in case of an audit by the Massachusetts Department of Education. We are currently awaiting recertification
We will gladly discuss details of workshop with you. Attendance at our morning seminars is required, as is the exclusive use of the French language. We expect that you read the pre-departure information and be in sufficient good health to undertake the trip. We use public transportation in France and walk at length, sometimes on bumpy cobblestone streets or on narrow sidewalks. We take guided walking tours which means walking for 2-3 hours at a time and standing while the guide tells us a story. We take metros and buses in cities and hire coach buses for our outside excursions. While this contributes to the charm of the experience, it requires the participant to be in good physical condition. Air conditioning in Europe is not as widespread as it is in the US, and hotel rooms are smaller. Think carefully about your accommodations; if you choose to be in a double room and change your mind after registration is closed or once the workshop has started, you will be responsible for paying two single supplements: for yourself and the roommate who will now be in a single room. We focus on absorbing French culture and expect our participants to do their best to adapt to France: vive la différence! If you have certain dietary or other restrictions, please ascertain beforehand that we are able to accommodate you. Vegetarian diets can usually be adapted, but we regret that our chefs cannot accommodate a vegan diet.
The French Traveler has exercised careful consideration with regard to the safety and well being of participants. We accept no responsibility for baggage, losses or additional expenses due to delay or changes in air or other services, sickness, weather, strike, war, force majeure, or other causes beyond our control; such losses or expenses will be borne by the passenger, as tour rates provide for arrangements only for the time stated. We reserve right to make alterations to this itinerary as deemed necessary, or to cancel this program prior to departure, in which case the entire payment will be refunded without further obligation. We reserve right to decline any person deemed inappropriate for the program, and to change or substitute any activities described above for reasons of inclement weather, unforeseen circumstances, acts of nature or inconveniences or reasons beyond our control.
